Jock and his wife Agnes were horticulturists, specialising in apples and a variety of plants suitable for the cut flower trade.

Their property covered a number of acres and was situated on Burwood Highway, east of Melbourne. The property no longer exists having now been developed with commercial and industrial buildings.

Jock was a member of the Committee of the Victorian Orchid Club and also a member of the Judging Panel for many years.

His cymbidiums and many orchid species were carefully selected and grown to perfection.

Vanda coerulea was a classic plant that Jock exhibited with great success over many years.

Jock was a jovial character and was very popular and loved to be drawn into conversation with his orchid plants.

Jock’s assessment in judging orchids was always very well respected.
