Charles Samuel Pollock (1822-1897) collected orchids for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the orchid nursery of Messrs Hugh Low &Co. whilst a chaplain in Burma. He discovered many horticulturally desirable species, many named in his honour, including Dendrobium parishii, Phalaenopsis parishii and Cymbidium parishii. He and his wife Eleanor produced exquisite illustrations of many species now held in the type collections at the RBG, Kew. This publication makes these available to a wider audience, accompanied by an up-to-date taxonomic treatment of the species.
Dudley Clayton is an Honorary Research Associate at the RBG, Kew and specialises in Asiatic orchids.
