In memory of

MAURICE HENRY BLACK

1917 ~ 2001

Maurie Black grew orchids as a hobby for thirty years prior to his death on 21st May, 2001. He and his wife Eve were members of most orchid societies throughout the eastern suburbs of Melbourne during all of that period.

They had a large collection of orchids and dominated the show bench competition and annual shows of several societies for many years.

Maurie was a highly knowledgeable orchid grower, who wrote and spoke widely on orchids. He was well known to orchid growers throughout Victoria and interstate, either personally or through the many articles he contributed to orchid journals.

He edited the Warringal Orchid Society newsletter for thirteen years and then the Melbourne Eastern Orchid Society for another eight years, relinquishing that position several years before his death.

Maurie was a Life Member of both of these societies and was a keen supporter of the North-East Melbourne Orchid Society.

VALE Maurie Black, you were held in great respect and high esteem by all within the Victoria orchid fraternity.

A donation has been made to the Australian Orchid Trust Fund by the Orchid Societies Council of Victoria Inc. (OSCOV).
